From the Introduction by Tim Janes, Hon FBCI, BCI Chairman:
The BCI is 25 years old. This is a significant milestone for any organisation and represents a timely opportunity to capture the BCI’s story, from its birth passing through infancy to young adulthood. This book is the result.
We had three main aims for the history that could be loosely described as:
1. Where did the BCI come from?
2. What has the BCI embodied over the last 25 years?
3. What does the future hold for the BCI?
Our first goal was to preserve the memories of those who were there at the beginning and who nurtured the institute through the early years. How did it begin? What was their inspiration? And was it an easy or difficult birth?
As an oral history, we have captured personal reflections on the BCI from many of the members who were instrumental in founding, nurturing and maturing our institute. What emerges is a fascinating and unexpected record. It also has the elements of a good drama. As I read the first two chapters, I was surprised just how many details from the BCI’s past I was discovering for the first time. I’m sure there will be more than a few discoveries for you too in these pages.
