Developed by DRJ in partnership with the Business Continuity Institute (BCI), the AI in Resilience Framework provides resilience professionals with a practical structure for understanding and addressing the opportunities and challenges created by artificial intelligence.

As AI becomes embedded across organisations, resilience teams must consider two connected perspectives:

  • AI for Resilience: how AI can strengthen resilience capabilities such as risk detection, planning, response, recovery, and decision-making.
  • Resilience for AI: how organisations prepare for and manage the new risks, dependencies, vulnerabilities, and failure modes introduced by AI-enabled systems.

The framework establishes a common vocabulary, defines key resilience responsibilities, and offers a maturity model to help organisations assess and improve their capabilities. It is not a governance standard or implementation blueprint. Instead, it serves as a reference guide that helps resilience, business continuity, disaster recovery, operational risk, and related professionals navigate an evolving landscape.

Sections 1–3 introduce the context, concepts, and terminology that underpin the framework. Section 4 presents the framework itself, organised into three pillars and ten domains, with a dedicated page for each domain. Sections 5–8 explore capability maturity, alignment with existing standards, practical adoption considerations, and future development of the discipline.

Designed as a living, vendor-neutral framework, this first edition provides a foundation for organisations seeking to build resilience in an AI-enabled world while contributing to the wider professional conversation on the future of resilience.
